This week I met with Krystal Ramirez. She is an undergraduate and transfer student at CSULB. In her free time, Krystal likes to take on DIY projects and go thrift shopping. Krystal is from Huntington Beach and went to an arts school for her high school education. She was inspired to be an artist by painting and making jewelry.
Krystal’s work was featured as part of a large exhibit where she submitted four pieces. All of these pieces were created with metal and made up of brass and fine silver. The pieces where polished very nicely and featured intricate geometrical shapes. One of her pieces, featured a golden ladle, with the handle slightly skewed like an origami fold. The bowl of the ladle was very spherical.
One of Krystal’s pieces was a very large and beautiful necklace. When asked about the design she said she created it in the form of musical notes. This is also why she chose to title it “Vem Magalenha Rajãö” which is a name of a Brazilian song.
I really liked Krystal’s work and enjoyed the three dimensional designs. I think metal is one of the more interesting mediums of art as some really cool pieces can be created.
